"It
is a magic and luminous region where the rivers Vézère
and Dordogne run. Located in the south-east of the Dordogne department,
it owes its name to the dark foliage of its forests. It is a destination
of charm which conceals envied treasures : the cradle of Prehistory,
the best of the Middle Ages, castles and gardens, and many other
marvelous things to discover as well. Its capital Sarlat, town of
Art and exceptional History, shelters under its old stones an architectural
heritage of priceless value."
Jean-François Sergent &Jacques Louge
On the banks of the Dordogne, the village of La Roque-Gageac is
located in the heart of this region. It is one of the most beautiful
village of France and strolling along its rock sided lanes will
remain an outstanding memory. La Roque Gageac is an ideal starting
point to discover landscapes, monuments and sites spread among winding
roads, valleys and slopes.
Want a castle ? Castelnaud, Beynac, Montfort are less than ten minutes
from the domain.
Want a garden ? The exotic garden of La Roque Gageac is nearby,
Marqueyssac and its famous boxwood is located a few minutes away,
and Eyrignac is not far to the North.
Want a fortified town? Domme, with its doors full of history, its
caves with colonnades, its panoramic view, is located on the hill
facing the domain.
Want to visit Sarlat ? Eight kilometers of hill road with beautiful
landscapes lead you from Roquecombe to the center of the medieval
city. The famous market, paved lanes and night animations are some
of Sarlat's treasures to discover.
Want to canoe ? Or maybe take a Gabare (flat-bottomed boat) trip
on the Dordogne river, cramming of geese, fly in a Montgolfiere
or thrill to a first flight in a helicopter. You can do all this
in La Roque Gageac, at the bottom of the domain's hill. Plus you
can also play golf and ride horses in the adjacent villages !
All the above activities are only a part of what can be seen and
done in the region : not forgetting prehistoric caves, Norman churches,
theme parks and more
Let's talk about this together in La
Roque Gageac.
